Mission Microwave Technologies was founded in 2014 to revolutionize the next generation of Solid-State Power Amplifiers (SSPAs) and Block Upconverters (BUCs). We utilize advanced GaN transistors, unique power combining technology, and novel full-system designs to create the industry’s most efficient, lightweight, and compact high-power SSPAs.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The VP of Engineering & Design will lead Mission Microwave Technology’s Engineering team through a critical period of growth and advancement. This role will be responsible for driving innovation, improving operational efficiency, and ensuring the successful development and delivery of state-of-the-art microwave and satellite communication products. The VP of Engineering will oversee multiple engineering disciplines, managing key projects, and ensuring that Mission Microwave remains at the forefront of industry innovation. The VP of Engineering will work closely with the CEO, executive team, product teams, and other departments to ensure that Mission Microwave continues to pioneer industry-leading products and technologies.
Leadership and Strategy
- Provide leadership and direction to the engineering department, fostering a culture of innovation and collaboration
- Develop and implement the company’s engineering strategy in alignment with the broader organizational objectives and market demands
- Work closely with the COO and executive team to align engineering projects with the company’s business strategy and goals
Engineering Operations
- Oversee the design, development, and delivery of high-performance microwave communication products
- Ensure that all engineering projects are completed on time, within budget, and meet quality and performance standards
- Align customer needs with product capabilities and potential capabilities
- Support sales and business development team to properly articulate capabilities to customers
- When necessary, work with customer engineering to understand and deliver on technical requirements
- Optimize the engineering process to improve efficiency, scalability, and quality
- Collaborate with finance department to establish budgets and capex needs to support engineering department current and future equipment and staffing needs
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with product management, manufacturing, and marketing to ensure seamless product lifecycle management
- Identify opportunities within product design that can improve profitability without compromising product performance, quality, and reliability
- Evaluate and develop product or variant end-of-life plans and customer communications strategies
- Support business case discussions to determine the merits, ROI, etc of potential new product or customer initiatives
Technical Excellence
- Stay up to date on the latest advancements in microwave communication technology and incorporate best practices into the company's engineering efforts
- Drive innovation in RF, microwave, and satellite communication systems, leveraging deep technical expertise in high-frequency design and manufacturing
- Evaluate and implement new tools, technologies, and methodologies to maintain Mission Microwave’s position as an industry leader
- Oversee the transition from R&D to full-scale manufacturing, ensuring products meet rigorous standards of reliability and performance
- Participate in industry conferences and speak as a technical expert in the field to support marketing efforts
Team Development
- Build, mentor, and retain a world-class engineering team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture
- Identify and nurture technical talent within the organization, encouraging continuous learning and development
- Set clear goals and performance metrics for the engineering department and ensure alignment with overall company objectives
Product and Technology Roadmap
- Work closely with the CEO, product management, and executive teams to define, follow, and refine the product roadmap and drive the development of new products
- Manage the development and execution of technology roadmaps that support long-term business goals
- Act as a technical leader and provide input into key product decisions, ensuring the delivery of innovative and competitive solutions
Compliance and Quality
- Ensure that all engineering activities comply with relevant regulatory standards, industry certifications, and best practices
Maintain the highest standards of product quality and reliability in both development and production stages
Implement and monitor continuous improvement initiatives to enhance product quality and performance
Support governmental, regulatory, and industry compliance audits and/or certification efforts
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field; Master’s degree highly preferred
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in engineering in RF, microwave, and/or satellite communications industries within the defense/aerospace industries with at least 5 years of experience in a senior leadership role
- Deep technical knowledge in RF and microwave systems design, high-power solid-state amplifiers, satellite communication systems, and high-frequency signal processing
- Proven experience in leading the development of complex hardware and software systems from concept through production
- Demonstrated ability to lead multi-disciplinary engineering teams, including setting goals, managing performance, and fostering team growth
- Knowledge of IPC 610, MIL-STD-883, -750, -1580
- Know and understand ISO and AS controls and regulations
- Proficient use of MRP systems; MAS90/Sage, SAP, or equivalent
- Highly skilled user of HFSS, Microwave Office, ADS, CST, or equivalent RF design tools
- Knowledge of database management systems; Omnify or equivalent
- Ability to work with discretion and confidentiality
- Active or ability to obtain U.S. government security clearance
