Position Description: The Cybersecurity Support Technician provides technical support for cybersecurity systems, assisting in the monitoring, troubleshooting, and maintenance of security tools and protocols to protect organizational networks and data.
Tasks/activities include, but are not limited to:
- Ensures compliance of assurance programs in accordance with the Navy guidance
- Provides unit level support for the development, management and maintenance of the Local Information Assurance Programs
- Provides annual review of Site Security Assessment and Accreditation (A&A) status for all CNSL ships
- Coordinates with ships and USFFC for units requiring A&A maintenance scheduling
- Coordinates with fielded Program of Record (POR) and Platform Information Technology (PIT) system offices to ensure system accreditation documentation is up to date
- Ensures the Authority to Operate (ATO) / Assessment and Authorization (A&A) letters are signed by the Navy Authorization Official (NAO)
- Provides vulnerability compliance reviews for all CNSL ships as directed by CNSL leadership
- Utilizes vulnerability compliance reviews in preparation for scheduled unit inspections
- Conducts shipboard evaluations to ensure shipboard systems are being maintained
- Ensures that approved system patches are installed on shipboard systems in accordance with Information Assurance
- Vulnerability Messages (IAVM), Communication Tasking Orders (CTO), Navy Technical Directives (NTD) and that approved system patches are installed per Fleet Advisory Message (FAM) guidance
- Conducts unit level cyber training assist visits on afloat units
- Coordinates with sites to ensure pre-visit requirements and minimal manning participation requirements are met
- Prepares formal preparatory and conclusion documentation and deliverables
- Conducts periodic and random shipboard spot-checks to validate system scanning and reporting compliance
- Provides proactive outreach, distance support, and tracking of onboard cyber programs
- Ensures compliance of cyber programs with applicable instructions and requirements, implementation of shipboard policies, and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)
- Provides coordination assistance to program office helpdesk and other support organizations for cyber technical barriers or casualties
- Provides prompt response to shipboard requests for assistance
- Develops training materials to support onboard and off-ship training events
- Acts as a subject matter expert (SME) to support to briefs, training events, and waterfront symposiums on Command, Control, Communication, Computer, Cyber, and Intelligence (C5I) systems, trends, and issues
- Conducts training events and/or provides ancillary support
- Assists ship's personnel in cyber bill development
- Ensures Cyber Work Force (CWF) bill documentation and management requirements are met
- Works with ship forces to develop a mitigation plan and Plan of Action and Milestone (POA&M) for correcting identified deficiencies
- Works with Naval Warfare Command (NAVWAR), Afloat Training Group (ATG), and Information Warfare Training Group (IWTG) to coordinate training processes and events
- Conducts tailored training events onboard to support cyber metrics
- Addresses identified training gaps
- Audits cyber warfare certification events as directed by Military/Civilian lead
- Provides recommendations for training process improvement
Compensation & Benefits: The annual projected pay range for this position is $101,349 - $121,450 with consideration being given to various factors including but not limited to qualifications, experience, job responsibilities, and geographic location.

Requirements
Minimum/General Experience: 10 years information technology and/or cyber security experience, related to shipboard computer networks
Minimum Education: High School diploma
Essential Skills/Qualifications:
- Excellent knowledge of Secretary of the Navy (SECNAV) Manual-5510 series
- Excellent knowledge of Secretary of the Navy instruction (SECNAVINST) 5239.1 series
- Excellent experience with Vulnerability Remediation Asset Manager (VRAM) process
- Excellent experience with Assured Compliance Assessment Solution (ACAS) process
- Excellent experience with Endpoint Security Solution (ESS) process
- Excellent experience with Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) process
- Excellent experience with Navy Authority to Operate (ATO) process
- Knowledge of the Risk Management Framework (RMF) guidance (e.g., DODI 8510.01)
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Strong attention to detail skills
- Ability to establish and maintain positive interpersonal relationships
- Ability to collaborate and problem-solve in a team environment
- Excellent experience with performing shipboard cyber evaluations or inspections (preferred)
General Physical Requirements needed to perform the essential functions of this job may vary based on the location of the assignment.
- Assignment Location - COMNAVSURFLANT (CNSL), Naval Base, Norfolk, VA; Consists of travel up to a 50-mile radius.
- Sedentary Work - Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Typing, communicating, repetitive motions.
- Close visual acuity to prepare and analyze data, view computer monitors and read. May need to view presentation screens and other visual aids in a virtual setting.
- Inside environmental conditions with protection from outside elements.
Security: Must have an active Secret security clearance to be considered; Ability to maintain a DoD Clearance
